Founded
in 1970 by Paul Gwyn, M.D., Forsyth Plastic Surgical Associates,
P.A., is the oldest and most established group of plastic
surgeons in the Piedmont Triad. Offering the latest techniques
in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, our doctors
will make you feel comfortable and confident with your decision
to undergo plastic surgery. In addition, most procedures
can safely be done in our own state-of-the-art, state-licensed
outpatient surgical center, the Plastic Surgery Center of
North Carolina.
When you meet with one of
our fully trained plastic surgeons, a problem specific exam
will be performed and your questions will be answered. Videotapes
and brochures will be available to help explain most of
the procedures, including breast augmentation, liposuction,
abdominoplasty, and facial rejuvenation. Our staff of experienced
registered nurses assists the doctors with both the pre-
and postoperative care of our patients.

Our
Philosophy
Our goal is always to provide
the best care for our patients. To do this requires a broad
background in the art of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery,
as well as a commitment to the process of continuing education.
By frequently evaluating new procedures and comparing them
with "tried and true" ones, our surgeons are able
to provide our patients with what is best for their particular
problem or desire. You will not be talked into a procedure
that is wrong or dangerous for you.
Each patient is treated as the unique person he or she is,
and communication between the patient and physician is paramount.
Consultation among the surgeons within our practice is available
for particularly difficult problems.

Our
Facilities
Our
office, The Plastic Surgery Center of North Carolina, is
located at 2901 Maplewood Avenue in Winston-Salem, North
Carolina. Our receptionists will be glad to provide directions
and assist you with scheduling a consultation.
The reception area, doctors' offices and consultation rooms
are located on the first floor of our building. A library
of videotapes is available to help explain many of the procedures
we offer.
The ground floor of our building is a state-licensed
outpatient surgery facility with three certified operating
rooms and a recovery area. Appropriate monitoring equipment
is in place to make any surgical procedure, whether large
or small, as safe as possible. A team of nurses will meet
you upon arrival and make your stay pleasant. Most patients
can go home after a brief stay in the recovery room. For
those who want to stay overnight, transportation can be
arranged to a private room at Medical Park Hospital, just
minutes away.

Payment
We
charge a fee for our cosmetic consultations because we believe
that our patients deserve to have all of their questions
answered. Surgeons who do not charge for the initial consultation
will often send their nurse into see you and answer questions,
and then make a "guest appearance." We meet with
you after a brief initial screening, and then spend as much
time as necessary to answer your questions and discuss the
procedures that make the most sense for you. Finding out
that you are not a candidate for a certain procedure, or
that another procedure would be more beneficial, is valuable
information and requires an expertise for which most patients
feel good about paying.
Cosmetic
procedures are usually not covered by insurance policies.
We require a 25% payment to schedule a procedure, and the
remainder is paid in full three weeks before your operation
date. We do take VISA and Mastercard, as well as personal
checks.

Expectations
Our goal is for you to be completely
satisfied. No matter what procedure you choose, we will
strive for the best result possible. Every surgical procedure,
however, has inherent risks and potential complications.
Possible complications include bleeding, infection, swelling
and poor wound
healing which can lead to undesirable scarring. Occasionally
a minor touch-up is necessary. Your surgeon will discuss
with you before surgery the potential complications and
answer all of your questions completely. We do this, not
to alarm patients, but to ensure that our patients are accurately
informed about the surgical procedure.
